During an Anti-gymnastique® class, the spoken word, self-reflection, the expression of sensations and emotions are just as important as the movements themselves.
The first part is a test that allows you to locate precisely what, from your head to your toes, hinders and limits you. The practitioner asks that you adopt a specific, rigorous, and demanding position. A position that corresponds to your ideal anatomy and which requires the full amplitude of your musculature. This is a position that no one ever takes, that everyone always avoids. To be able to maintain this position, your body does what it can, but this time with blaring evidence: it twists and deforms itself. One shoulder lifts, one leg goes out, the toes twist. Why? Not because your muscles are weak, as commonly thought, but on the contrary, because they are too contracted.A tremendously strong muscular block causes your body to fold in half, cuts off your breathing, forbids you, very clearly, to obey your brain’s commands; you can no longer ignore this message.
In the second part of the class, you access each of your muscular knots, the same knots that were preventing you from moving, standing with elegance, and letting your musculature take the natural amplitude of your movements. Fiber by fiber, you begin, gently, patiently, calmly, to undo the complex skein of your musculature. Progressively, from class to class, your body learns to free itself from the traps that ensnared it. Your body relaxes, regains its true length, its natural beauty, and finally, its quietude.
