Pregnancy and birthing

« It is my mouth that really helped me to deliver my baby. And the work with the whole body that you taught me. »

Thérèse Bertherat has heard these comments often. Although she had not intended to prepare pregnant women to give birth, she observed that Anti-gymnastique® helped women to deliver their babies naturally.According to Thérèse Bertherat, Anti-gymnastique® is not only a way to prepare women to give birth. One could say that women who practice Anti-gymnastique® during their pregnancy are “ reborn ” to their own bodies. This is perhaps because pregnant women possess, even more so that at any other time in their life, this sixth sense that allows them to deeply perceive their body.

Several practitioners offer classes specifically for pregnant women to prepare them for giving birth.

In 1996, Thérèse Bertherat co-wrote with her then pregnant daughter Marie Bertherat and midwife Paule Brung, a book entitled A corps consentant (Body Willing). In this book, the three authors talked about the interplay of the forces that inhabit the body of a pregnant woman. Thérèse Bertherat also proposed very precise movements to prepare the body of a pregnant woman for giving birth.
